Who is it for? Violin and cello students 13 years or older who want to learn in a creative, supportive and inter-generational environment. Participants must know how to read music but all levels of experience are welcome.

When is it held? July 30 - August 1, 2012. In general, students will need to be available from 9am-3pm. More detailed schedule to come.

How do I register? Registration can be sent by mail or hand delivered to 44 Crystal Lake Drive, Brookfield, NS, B0N 1C0. We accept cash or personal cheques payable to Anne Davison. Registration deadline is June 30th, early bird rate deadline is June 15th.

Registered students please note: a welcome package will be sent to you the week preceding the camp; if you have not provided camp staff with your email address, please do so now!

How much does it cost? The camp is $200 per student ($185 early bird).

What can I expect? Lots of fun! This camp is based on a holistic model which considers personal development to be essential to good music making. Exploration of all kinds is encouraged! Fostering a supportive community, we will do small and large group activities all focused on making us better creative artists through string playing. Activities will include singing, stretching, and games, among many other things!

What else do I need to know?

  • You need to bring your own instrument to camp. If you need help finding an instrument, just ask!
  • You must know how to read music in order to participate in the camp.
  • You are responsible for bringing a snack and a packed lunch each day.
  • There will be an open rehearsal to which you can invite family and friends on August 1st so keep your eyes peeled for more details!
Faculty

Anne Davison:
cello /director

Anne is delighted to return as director of Strings 'n' Things this year. She has a passion for education and draws from her own training (B. Mus, UBC; M. Mus, U of Ottawa) as well as her personal explorations of the cello and beyond. Her wholistic teaching style is centred on the cello but is influenced heavily by principles of body movement, and presence of mind.

Tony Delgado:
violin

Antonio Delgado received his musical education from the world-renowned El Sistema program in his home town of Caracas, Venezuela. Though Delgado began his musical life on the violin, he soon discovered his love and talent for conducting. From 2005 to 2010 Delgado was Musical Director of the largest South American theatre, Teresa Carreño. In July 2010, Delgado relocated to Canada where he is the current conductor of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra, and Musical Director and violin/viola teacher of Sistema New Brunswick in Moncton, NB.

James Hill:
violin/fiddle

A passionate teacher, James Hill, who holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of British Columbia, has presented workshops throughout Canada and the United States, as well as in Japan, Germany, Italy, Sweden and New Zealand. He has twice been invited to teach and perform at the renowned `Ukulele and Slack Key Guitar Institute in Waimea, HI and has lectured at the Queen's University School of Music in Kingston, ON.
